British Champions Day at Ascot takes place in mid-October and marks the official closing of the British flat racing season.
This single day of racing has five Group 1 races on the card, covering a range of distances between 6f and 2m, with one race dedicated to fillies and mares. With prize money in excess of £4.3m, this is the single most valuable day of racing in the country.
In addition to the five Group 1 contests there is also a conditions race for two-year-olds which was introduced in 2025 and the Balmoral Handicap, making a total of seven races.
The meeting was created in 2011 and until 2024 this was the finale to the British Champions Series of races. The Champion Flat Jockey, Champion Apprentice and Champion Owner titles are also crowned following the conclusion of this meeting.
