Uttoxeter Racecourse Fixtures

Staffordshire’s only racecourse is located in the town of Uttoxeter, around 16 miles to the east of Stoke on Trent. Barring a short break in August, this National Hunt-only venue operates all year round.

Of the 20+ fixtures on offer, the clear highlight comes in March with the hugely popular Midlands Grand National meeting. Held over a trip of 4m 1f 110yards, the track’s flagship contest is the second longest race in the UK, behind only the Grand National itself.

Uttoxeter Racecourse is one of Britain’s leading National Hunt venues and home to one of the toughest staying chases in the sport. Located in Staffordshire, the course stages competitive jump racing throughout the year, attracting many of the country’s top trainers and staying chasers.

While its calendar features several popular social events and quality summer fixtures, everything revolves around one race that has become a true institution of British jump racing – the Midlands Grand National. Every year, this race attracts huge betting money from all around the country, as well as a huge TV audience.

Midlands Grand National Day (March)

The Midlands Grand National is Uttoxeter’s crown jewel and one of the most prestigious handicap chases in Britain. Run over a gruelling four miles and two furlongs, it is one of the ultimate tests of stamina, pushing both horse and rider to their limits and earning a reputation as one of the toughest races in the National Hunt calendar.

Many future Aintree Grand National runners have used the race as a springboard, while previous winners have gone on to become household names among jumping fans. The meeting attracts huge crowds, nationwide television coverage and some of the strongest staying chasers in training, making it comfortably Uttoxeter’s biggest day of the year.

The supporting card is good too. Two Class 2 races are featured, with some of the best owners, trainers, and jockeys in the country still keen to sniff out success on the Saturday straight after the Cheltenham Festival.
