Bath Racecourse Fixtures

One of three tracks in the county of Somerset, Bath Racecourse is located a little over three miles outside the city of the same name. A flat racing-only track, Bath is renowned for providing the firmest ground in the country as a result of its chalk-based subsoil.

Operating from May through to October, the major events of the season are the Listed Class contests of the Lansdowne Fillies’ Stakes in April and the Beckford Stakes in October.

Bath Racecourse’s calendar is built around an enjoyable mix of competitive Flat racing and popular summer entertainment. While the venue is known for its relaxed atmosphere and picturesque setting overlooking the city, it also stages two Listed races each season, alongside a number of themed evenings that draw large crowds throughout the warmer months.

Lansdown Fillies’ Stakes (April)

Bath’s first Listed contest of the season shines the spotlight on some of the quickest fillies and mares around. Run over the minimum trip, the Lansdown Fillies’ Stakes regularly attracts quality sprinters looking to make a fast start to their campaign.

  • Staged in April over five furlongs
  • Listed contest for fillies and mares aged three and older
  • One of Bath’s two black type races each season

Summer Racenights (July & August)

The summer months bring a festival feel to Bath, with racing combined with live entertainment long after the final race has been run. Themed meetings such as The Wurzels Racenight and Rum & Reggae Racenight are among the racecourse’s most popular social events.

  • Features themed race days and live music throughout the summer
  • Captures great summer vibes in a picturesque setting
  • Combines evening Flat racing with post-racing entertainment

Beckford Stakes (October)

The Beckford Stakes provides Bath with a fitting high-quality finale to the Listed race programme. Staged over a mile and six furlongs, it gives talented stayers one final opportunity to earn valuable black type before the Flat season begins winding down.

  • Held in October over 1¾ miles
  • Listed race for horses aged three and above
  • Bath’s premier staying contest of the year

Season Finale (October)

The curtain comes down on another year of racing with Bath’s final fixture of the season. While the atmosphere is more relaxed than during the summer months, racegoers still enjoy a competitive afternoon as the racecourse signs off until the following spring.

  • Traditionally held on a Thursday in October
  • Marks the final meeting of Bath’s Flat racing season
  • Brings the curtain down on another successful year at Lansdown Hill
