Merseyside’s premier dual-purpose track lies between the towns of Haydock and Ashton-in-Makerfield. Playing host to around 30 meetings per year, the flat season runs from May through to October, with the jumps then taking over for the winter months.
In addition to the quantity on offer, the quality of the Haydock racing fare is well above average. The track is home to a total of eight Graded National Hunt events, including the seasonal highlight of the Betfair Chase in January, and the Peter Marsh Chase and Rendlesham Hurdle, which take place in January and February respectively. The Haydock Sprint Cup in September serves as the headline act of the flat season.

Major Meetings at Haydock Park

Haydock Park Racecourse runs a busier mixed calendar of flat and jumps racing, with several high-quality meetings throughout the year. While standout events like the Betfair Chase and Sprint Cup draw focus, strong supporting fixtures maintain consistent interest.
Peter Marsh Chase Day (January)
As Haydock’s jumps season continues, the Peter Marsh Chase is a highlight on the calendar with the race run on a Saturday in mid-January.

- Feature race: Old Newton Cup (Heritage Handicap)
- Group 2 Lancashire Oaks on the card
- Very popular summer meeting with strong attendance
Rose of Lancaster Stakes Day (August)
This brilliant Saturday race day in August incorporates Haydock’s Ladies Day. The Lancaster Stakes is the big one (Group 3), with the Dick Hern Fillies’ Stakes also a big draw.

Sprint Cup Day (September)
Haydock’s absolute two blockbuster days come later in the year, starting with the Sprint Cup. This is a Group 1 race, won in the past by star speedsters Harry Angel and course record holder Minzaal. The famous Old Borough Cup (handicap) is also on the card, as well as two other high-level races.
- Feature race: Sprint Cup (Group 1)
- Haydock’s biggest Flat meeting – run on the first Saturday in September
- Part of the British Champions Series
Betfair Chase Day (November)
Haydock’s other top-level race is the Betfair Chase, a Grade 1 over the jumps, run in mid-to-late November. This race holds huge importance, with winners in the past including Kauto Star, A Plus Tard, and Grey Dawning.
- Feature race: Betfair Chase (Grade 1)
- A major early season jumps highlight
