Carlisle Racecourse Fixtures

Carlisle is one of only two tracks within the northwest county of Cumbria. As a dual-purpose course, Carlisle can operate almost all year round – January traditionally being the only blank month.

The Carlisle Bell – believed to be the oldest racing trophy currently awarded in Britain – takes centre stage on the flat, whilst the major highlight of the jumps season is the Listed class Houghton Mares’ Chase which takes place on a Sunday in December.

The remainder of the calendar is made up of lower-profile fixtures, but the track is always very well supported by racegoers, trainers, and jockeys.

Carlisle Bell & Cumberland Plate Day (June)

Coming straight after the conclusion of Royal Ascot, this is a great week for racing in the north. The Carlisle Bell and Cumberland Plate handicaps are run midweek, Wednesday, before the show moves on to Newcastle for the Northumberland Plate meeting.
