One of Britain’s most famous courses lies in the North Downs of Surrey. The flat racing fixtures at Epsom Downs are relatively sparse in comparison to many other tracks – with the track laying on around a dozen meetings between the months of April and September.
This idiosyncratic track, filled with sharp turns and exaggerated undulations, is well known around the world courtesy of the historic Epsom Derby. The 1m4f Classic is the centrepiece of the two-day Derby Meeting which takes place in early June each year, and also features the fillies Classic of The Oaks.
Outside of the Derby meeting, the track’s biggest fixture comes in early April and includes the handicap double of the City and Suburban and Great Metropolitan, in addition to the Derby trial of the Blue Riband Trial Stakes.
