Lincolnshire’s only racecourse resides in the town of Market Rasen, amongst the beautifully scenic Lincolnshire Wolds.
Unusually for an exclusively jumps racing venue, the track stages meetings right throughout the year, being a prominent player on the summer jumps scene. The biggest meeting of the year comes in late July and features both the Summer Handicap Hurdle and the Summer Plate.

Major Meetings at Market Rasen

Market Rasen Racecourse runs a busy jumps-focused calendar, with racing spread across much of the year. While most fixtures are lower-grade, standout summer meetings give the track a stronger profile than many similar venues.
Season Opener (Spring)
As soon as racing’s over for one jumps season, it all starts again quickly at Market Rasen who like to jump even when the sun is out and the ground is fast.
- Early part of the jumps calendar
- Mix of novice and handicap races
- Builds momentum into summer fixtures
Summer Plate Ladies Day (July)
The always popular Summer Plate Dat at Market Rasen is also Ladies Day. A great atmosphere for the televised racing, on a Saturday in mid-July, is always expected. There are other spaces, but the Lawn Enclosure is the place to be for large groups, and those looking to sip a glass of something with a picnic.
- Feature race: Summer Plate Handicap Chase
- One of the biggest summer jumps races in Britain
- Alsay features the Summer Hurdle – another high-quality race
Lincolnshire National Day (January)
Like many areas around Britain, this famous county puts on its own ‘National’. While not as prestigious as the Grand National at Aintree, this proper test of a racehorse brings in the crowds and the TV viewers.
- Feature race: Lincolnshire National Handicap Chase
- Staying test in midwinter conditions
- One of the track’s key winter highlights
Boxing Day Meeting (December)
Every area should have a strong festive race day or two, and Market Rasen certainly does.
- Festive raceday with strong attendance
- Popular local fixture
- Competitive racing, great for betting
