Great Yarmouth Racecourse is one of the East of England’s most important Flat racing venues, offering a mix of competitive racing, family entertainment and one of the region’s leading autumn festivals.

While its seaside location makes it a popular destination during the summer months, the course is also highly respected within the racing industry.

Ordinary-looking maiden and novice races at Yarmouth often prove anything but ordinary, with many of the powerful Newmarket stables making the short journey along the A11 to introduce promising youngsters before they progress to much bigger stages. It’s a racecourse where future stars are regularly seen long before they become household names.

Country & Western Raceday (August)

The summer calendar includes one of Yarmouth’s most popular themed fixtures, with Country & Western Raceday combining Flat racing with live music, themed entertainment and a lively atmosphere. It’s a favourite among groups looking for something a little different from a traditional day at the races.

  • Country-themed entertainment throughout the day
  • Competitive Flat racing in a relaxed summer atmosphere
  • One of the racecourse’s most popular themed events

Music Tribute Race Days (August)

  • A popular feature of Yarmouth’s summer programme

Safari Family Fun Raceday (August Bank Holiday)

The Eastern Festival (September)

The Eastern Festival is Great Yarmouth’s flagship event and the undisputed highlight of the racing calendar. Spanning three days, the festival combines quality Flat racing with fashion, hospitality and themed entertainment, attracting some of the racecourse’s biggest crowds of the year.

The opening Gents Day sets the tone with competitive racing and a lively social atmosphere, and features a novice race worth £40,000.

Attention then turns to the prestigious John Musker Fillies’ Stakes, a Listed contest on day two that regularly attracts talented fillies with Pattern race ambitions. Jockeys such as Frankie Dettori and William Buick have won this race more than once, while great trainer John Gosden has saddled the winner no fewer than seven times.

The festival concludes with a vibrant Ladies Day, where fashion competitions, entertainment and packed grandstands provide a fitting finale to the biggest meeting of the season. The festival runs from Tuesday to Thursday, and is always well attended.

  • Great Yarmouth’s flagship three-day racing festival
  • Features the Listed John Musker Fillies’ Stakes
  • Concludes with one of the East of England’s biggest Ladies’ Days
